AirSeaShow Fort Lauderdale, 4. und 5. Mai 2002

F-117

F-117

F-117 "Nighthawk"
(Originalbeschreibung) The Lockheed F-117A "Stealth"
fighter is one of the most sophisticated warplanes ever built. Almost invisible to radar, the F-117 has revolutionized air warfare. It was operated at first under conditions of total
secrecy, but in 1991 the U.S. Air Force deployed it openly to Saudi Arabia for service in the Gulf War. Ranging the night skies over Baghdad with impunity, it struck the most
heavily defended Iraqi targets with stunning effect. Not much information has been made available to the public as of this moment.
B-52 US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress Bomber
(Originalbeschreibung) The B-52 Stratofortress was conceived as the giant silver sword of the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command. It was the biggest purely jet-powered bomber of its time, and has been flying for almost 45 years. Flown for decades on atomic alert, it also undertook the massive conventional
bombing campaigns in the wars in Southeast Asia and in the Persian Gulf.
B-2 B-2 "Spirit"
(Originalbeschreibung) The B-2 Spirit has the dark mission of pressing undetected, deep into enemy territory, to
deliver on-target bombs. Northrop designed this all-black flying wing as the world's only Stealth bomber, an invisible ghost to enemy radar operators. Long kept secret, the B-2
is out in the open today and is soon to be fully operational, with both nuclear and conventional bombing duties. Not much information has been made available to the public as of this moment.
Catalina Ein Klassiker - die Consolidated PBY "Catalina", 1941-45 im Kriegseinsatz findet man dank ihrer Robustheit noch heute flugfähige Exemplare.
F-18 F-18 (Originalbeschreibung): The F/A-18 Hornet can vault from a carrier deck, bomb a target and stay to dogfight. The U.S. Navy is delighted with this super warplane, its first modern-era jet intended for double duty against air and ground enemies. U.S. Marines and overseas operators also love the Hornet. The new F/A-18E/F under development
is a bigger, more robust version of this superb fighter for carrier squadrons in the 21st century.
Jimmy Dolittle. Diese Maschine gehört "Fantasy of Flight".
AA Auch die zivile Luftfahrt war mit von der Partie - hier eine Boeing 757 der American Airlines im tiefen Überflug.
F-14

F-14

F-14 Tomcat (Originalbeschreibung): The F-14 Tomcat is the main defender of the U.S. fleet. With its high speed and ultra-long range weapons, the F-14 can operate
hundreds of miles away from its carrier base. The Tomcat AWG-9 radar can engage six targets at once and its Phoenix missiles can kill hostile bombers 90 miles away, before they can launch their attacks. The Tomcat is one of the world's true "Top Guns." The F-14 is a supersonic, twin-engine, variable sweep wing, two-place fighter designed to attack and destroy enemy
aircraft at night and in all weather conditions. It can track up to 24 targets simultaneously with its advanced weapons control system and attack with Phoenix AIM-54A missiles while continuing to scan the airspace.
Armament also includes a mix of other air intercept missiles, rockets and bombs. The world's premier air defense fighter, it was designed to replace the F-4 Phantom 11 fighter (phased out in 1986). F-14s
provided air cover for the joint strike on Libyan terrorist targets in 1986. The F-14A was introduced in the mid-1970s. The upgraded F-14A+ Versions with new
General Electric F-110 engines, now widespread throughout the fleet, is more than a match for enemy fighters in close in-air combat.
F-16 F-16 Fighting Falcon (Originalbeschreibung): The F-16 Fighting Falcon is over 20 years old but still a star performer. Fast and potent, it remains one of the best fighters in its class. This relatively lightweight and inexpensive warplane gave us electronic flight controls
and other high-tech wizardry. In addition, its radar, missiles and cannon make it a genuine Top Gun, respected by friend and foe alike. The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact,
multirole fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and has proven itself in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack.
It provides a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for the United States and allied nations. In an air combat role, the F-16's maneuverability and combat radius (distance it can fly to enter air combat, stay, fight and return) exceed that of all potential threat fighter aircraft. It can locate targets in all weather conditions and detect low flying aircraft in radar ground clutter. In an air-to-surface role, the F-16 can fly more than 500 miles (860 kilometers), deliver its weapons with superior accuracy, defend itself against enemy aircraft, and return to its starting point. An all-weather capability allows it to accurately deliver ordnance during non-visual bombing conditions. In designing the F-16, advanced aerospace science and proven
reliable systems from other aircraft such as the F-15 and F-111 were selected. These were combined to simplify the
airplane and reduce its size, purchase price, maintenance costs and weight. The light weight of the fuselage is achieved without reducing its strength. With a full
load of internal fuel, the F-16 can withstand up to nine G's -- nine times the force of gravity -- which exceeds the capability of other current fighter aircraft.
A-10 A-10 Warthog (Originalbeschreibung): The A-10 and OA-10 Thunderbolt IIs are the first Air Force aircraft specially designed for close air support of ground forces. They are simple, effective and survivable twin-engine
jet aircraft that can be used against all ground targets, including tanks and other armored vehicles. The A-10 and OA-10 have excellent maneuverability at low air speeds and altitude, and are highly accurate weapons-delivery platforms. Their wide combat radius and short takeoff and landing capability permit operations in and out of locations near front lines. Thunderbolt IIs have single-seat cockpits forward of their wings, and a large bubble canopy which provides pilots all-around vision. The pilots
are encircled by titanium armor that also protects parts of the flight-control system. The redundant primary structural sections allow the aircraft to enjoy better survivability during close air support than did previous
aircraft. The aircraft can survive direct hits from armor-piercing and high-explosive projectiles up to 23mm. Their redundant hydraulic flight-control systems are backed up by manual systems. This permits pilots
to fly and land when hydraulic power is lost.
